App-based rideshare and delivery services provide an equal opportunity for people to earn income on their own terms. 52 million+ Americans have earned with the industry, because of the flexibility and independence this work provides.

Today that flexibility could be at risk as policymakers consider actions that will impact the future of this sector. Recently, the Department of Labor announced that it is examining changes to the way that workers are classified – potentially putting at risk the flexibility and independence that app-based workers desire.

We want to hear from past and present app-based workers about how this flexibility and independence has created more opportunities to live, work, and run their businesses on their own terms. Share your story here and make sure YOUR voice is heard as officials in Washington consider changes that would fundamentally alter how app-based workers earn income.

Here are some questions to get you started:

  • What made you decide to pursue app-based work?

  • How has app-based work differed from your past jobs/lifestyle?

  • Why is the flexibility and independence of app-based work important to you?

  • Why do you believe app-based work is so crucial to the economy?

Tips and Tricks:

  • Record your video with your phone in vertical/portrait orientation

  • Make your video anywhere from 60-90 seconds long

  • Allow a few seconds after hitting record before speaking and a few seconds after speaking before you end the recording (this assures none of your stories get accidentally cut out).

  • To film with optimal lighting, make sure the light is coming in from the side or front of you (if the light is behind you, there will be a shadow on you in the video).

  • Place camera at eye level for more flattering video angles

  • Bonus points if you film from your car with your seatbelt on (while you are parked)!
