Flex, the trade association representing the app-based industry, is seeking its first Manager of Media and External Affairs to help lead its public positioning, media relations, and third-party engagement efforts. Candidates for this mid-level role should be willing to take initiative and generate creative ideas, and they must thrive in a fast-paced environment with a small team. This position will work closely with Flex’s Head of Public Policy and report to the Chief Executive Officer. DC-metro area candidates are strongly preferred.

 Qualifications:

• 5-7 years of experience working in communications, or campaign outreach, preferably in DC or on Capitol Hill
• Experience developing and pitching media stories, preferably in the tech, health, restaurant or transportation industries
• Experience developing creative ideas to drive press/social media engagement
• Ability to understand and work with bipartisan and diverse stakeholders
• Strong project management skills
• Experience coordinating event logistics
• Knowledge of effective social media engagement strategies
• Strong writing and editing skills
• Experience working with industry and coalition partners

Responsibilities include:

• Identifying opportunities to advance Flex’s goals through media engagement and monitoring
• Responding to media inquiries, pitching stories, and engaging in regular reporter outreach
• Taking first pen on content such as media statements, press releases, talking points, and other written materials
• Managing social media channels and website content
• Supporting Flex’s policy and public affairs priorities by effective development of and engagement with partner and intergovernmental organizations that advance shared goals. 
• Building and maintaining relationships with member companies’ coalition partners.
• Working with the Flex team to build creative events and coordinating event logistics
• Conduct special projects as assigned by the CEO or Head of Public Policy, which may include research to support Flex goals and policy advocacy
• Other duties as assigned.
