WASHINGTON - The Flex Association commends lawmakers in Congress for their passage today of legislation that includes independent and app-based workers under the “No Tax on Tips” policy. The provision, included in the broader reconciliation bill, marks a significant victory for the more than 23 million Americans who have chosen app-based work.
“This legislation is a win for the millions of app-based workers across the United States, allowing them to keep more of what they earn while upholding transparency and accountability,” said Kristin Sharp, CEO of Flex. “We thank Senators Crapo and Cruz and Congressmen Smith and Buchanan for recognizing and championing the essential role of app-based workers. This new law will directly support drivers and delivery workers on the ground, as well as the consumers and small businesses who rely on them each and every day. We look forward to working with the administration to help implement this policy and continue to expand opportunities for independent workers.”
This exemption is expected to boost the financial health of app-based workers – many of whom rely on flexible app-based work to balance jobs, caregiving, school, and other responsibilities.
Flex worked closely with lawmakers in both chambers to ensure that the policy included app-based workers. Looking forward, Flex will continue working with federal agencies and its members to support smooth implementation and ensure that workers understand and benefit from the new rules.
